Contemplate the Dreams of the Dead with God Body Disconnect

Few artists can capture the ephemeral timbre of the afterlife - that time loses its meaning, and no longer has conceptual hold upon the spirit; the feeling of wandering, simply for wandering’s sake, drifting slowly upon the eddies of inexorable forces of creation beyond our mortal fathom. Few artists can paint vivid pictures in the imagination of fog-shrouded vistas of empty metropolis, occupied by your own self - your id - as you meander aimlessly through the bereft landscapes of places that were once teeming with incalculable life and meaning, yet now has neither hold nor implication upon you. Bruce Moallem is the artist who can - and does - exactly this. Crafting miasmic soundscapes for years under the moniker God Body Disconnect, Moallem has dedicated his craft to exploring the infinite unknown and the unanswerable questions of life after death with his albums, and the newest GBD album, Dreams to be Buried In is exemplar of this task. While this is certainly not to imply any finality to the artistic output of GBD, there is almost a subtle feeling of resolution in this release, perhaps this is merely my own interpretation through the precis of the album, as given by composer Moallem, himself, there is some sense of serenity in the music of this album, fans and followers of God Body Disconnect will absolutely love this newest output.
It is difficult to find the proper words to describe such gentle textures that the music of God Body Disconnect employs, as this album begins in much the same fashion as its forebears: a calm narration from the composer, with field recordings and the gentle swell of the initial sound textures; however, musically, the genius of GBD is the neutral feeling of these compositions. These songs exactly personify the feelings of purposeless wandering. Soaked in reverb, these benign chordings offer serenity, and at no point is there a feeling of any impetus in the progression of the tracks. This is the perfect soundtrack for one who has shirked their mortal bond, and now finds themselves standing in a ghostly, empty shell of this corporeal reality. Each track of this album subtly rises to the fore, and as its gossamer tones flit and furl around the ear, they quietly waft into the distance, to be replaced by the next, while the listener is left to view their respective standing in this afterlife, and with song titles belying hints of acceptance and relinquishment; a gentle reckoning of the soul.
Dreams to be Buried In exemplifies the dynamic brilliance of God Body Disconnect, and is a showcase of the talents of its writer, as well. This is an album of gentle contemplation, and soothing musical textures that blanket the mind with calm. You can purchase Dreams to be Buried In in CD digipak and digital format on the Cryo Chamber bandcamp page.
